Day 3 - Shooting Pack

Here is the shooting back for the planned Day 3 of filming, most of these scenes involve Sarah and take place in her house.

Treatment-
Title of film: Lucky Penny

Duration: 5 Minutes

Audience: Our film is targeted at people ages 12 upwards or from about 10 upwards if with a parent/guardian. It is a 12A as the story line contains some mildly adult content such as theft and relationship problems. The film is for both males and females but probably drifts more towards the female audience as many drama films do!

Certificate: 12A

Story Line:
The film opens with falling/trickling (waterfall) of pennies. The shot then fades into the film with our main character, Sarah, talking with her Grandma, Dorothy. She is given a double-headed coin, that her Grandma says is lucky. Sarah is skeptical about this, so shoves the penny in her bag. Sarah is day-dreaming in her bedroom, when her mum tells her to walk the dog. Whilst she's walking the dog she wishes that it would stop raining, and flicks the coin. Much to her surprise it stops raining. However, she dismisses the idea that the coin had answered her wish. Later that day, she heads home and her mum asks her to do another job. Sarah's fed up with running errands and it retaliation throws her phone across the room, scratching it. She claims that the penny isn't bringing her any luck so she flicks it across the room. She then walks over to her phone, to see that it is fixed again. Her exam results come through the post, before opening them she wishes that she gets the grades she needs to get into college, and her wish is granted. She then receives a phone call confirming her place on her college course.

After Sam goes home, Sarah looks for her lucky penny in her purse. However, it isn't there. Panicking that she has spent the penny, she empties the contents of her bag. She cannot find it and seems to have misplaced her purse and Ipod. She goes to bed, without finding the penny. The next day her mum wakes her up, asking whether she's taken some money from her purse. Innocent, Sarah storms out and heads to Sam's house. Sarah receives a text from her friend, asking if she's coming to visit her. However, she tells her she's off to Sam's. Her friend begins to fall out with her. Distracted, Sarah accidentally steps in a puddle, drenching her fabric shoes.

She arrives at Sam's house. His sister tells her to go straight up to his room. She knocks on the door and enters the room. Sam appears extremely sheepish, and is trying to cover something up with his duvet. He starts apologizing to her. Confused, she goes over to look at what he is hiding. She pulls back his duvet and finds her purse and ipod and the missing money from her mum's purse. She also finds her lucky penny. He attempts to justify his actions and apologies  Sarah's having none of it. He asks her what makes the penny so important, and she explains that it's double-headed. She then says, 'Tell you what, I'll flip this coin, if it's heads I stay, tails I go.' She then flips the coin, and the double-headed coin lands on tails.

Suggested Elements: Our film is a film for all the family, it is a drama which has a linear narrative through out. Like most dramas it will be easy watching and have a simple yet interesting story line which is realistic.

For this part of the film we will need, a dog, a broken phone, sarah to be in her casual clothing, the setting will need to be in a girly bedroom this will be able to be shown through mise-en-scene with things such as style of bedding and the colour of the room. Canvas shoes will also be needed for when Sarah steps in a puddle to add to the effect of how unlucky she is as cavas shoes will soak up the water quickly. An easily openable bag will be needed for when Sarah realises her things are missing and most importantly the double headed coin will be important in these scene.

Photo Storyboard

This is a storyboard plan of the type of shot we will be using and where about our characters will be in the shots. (Each person is only in the place of where a character will be and may be in the place of more than one character.)

Alterations To Storyline

During our filming on day one we have found several problems with our current story line. We don't have a clear enough idea why our main character, Sarah, figures out that the coin is lucky as she never acknowledges this or clearly sees that the coin is giving her luck.

We have decided to make a few alterations to the story to make it clear how and when she figures out the coin is lucky.

Improved story line.....

Sarah is on her way to her nannan's house for a visit and to help her with the hobby she enjoys, counting and collecting special coins. Sarah arrives at her nannan's house where she is greeted with a hug and goes straight to count the coins.  A few hours after starting her nannan finds one particular coin in the pile. A double-headed 2p. She explains that this is a special coin and has brought years of luck to her while she has owned it and then gives it Sarah to keep. Unconvinced of its luck Sarah takes the coin and pours the rest of the jar onto the pile.

3 years later Sarah is coming round from a daydream she had had from when her nannan gave her a special coin, realising she hasn't seen it in a while she digs it out of an old jewellery box she had kept it safe in and has a good look at the doubled headed sides. Her mum calls from downstairs to tell her to take the dog for a walk.

Sarah finally slides her way to the park because there is lots of snow and ice, causing her to struggle holding onto the lead and stay standing. Sarah slips on the ice and lets go of the lead. But instead of the dog running off, as it usually would, the dog stops and lets Sarah catch up.

When back at home she begins some homework when her mum rings. She answers and asks where her i-pod has gone but instead gets accused of stealing money from her mum. Annoyed she throws her phone and it lands in pieces.
A few minutes later she comes back to find her phone fixed and back up on the table
Oblivious to this she takes her phone and rings her best friend Leah asking if she can come round.

Once at Leah's house Sarah goes straight in and Leah's sister directs her straight up to her room, on the way up she gets her phone out of her pocket, but also finds the coin she had put in earlier and wishes it was really lucky.
Sarah finds Leah in her bedroom with lots of things piled up, including her i-pod she had lost and the money that was stolen from her mum. Sarah has a flash back of all the times she has been lucky and realises each time she has had the coin on her.  Sarah then realises that Leah isn't the friend she thought she was, and so lets the coin decided by staying if it lands on heads and leaving if it lands on tails; she slams the coin on a table and leaves knowing the answer.
The double headed coin lands on tails.

Film Title
Due to the change in out story line we no longer have a flipping coin in our film and so our title doesn't fit with the story line.
The new title we have chosen, out of the other names we thought of before, is 'Luck Out' we have chosen this titles because it is subtle and represents the theme of the films ,luck, as well as represents the relationship between the two friends.

Revised Certificate
We have changed the certificate of our film from a 12 A to a PG, we have re looked at the script and storyboard and have come up with no reason why anyone younger than a 12 can't go and see this film. We no longer have anything in our film that may influence younger children, and there is no adult situations or themes.
We have chosen a PG not U because we still think any child younger than 8 may think the themes in this story are true and could happen to them.

Changed Target Audience
In the time since we originally looked at our target audience our film has undergone a lot of changes. The script and story line have changed and, instead of it being about a couple it is now about two best friends. We feel that now the rating has gone down to a PG and there has been a change in the story line our film will now appeal to a different  target audience. We think that our film is more suitable for girls and women but mainly feel it is a film that is going to interest teenage girls this is because they could relate to both of our main characters.

Risk Assessment for Dorothys house

Final Character Profiles

Here are the final character profiles, we are going to take and add photos to them at the point of filming.

Risk Assessment for Sam's House

We've conducted a risk assessment for each location we will be shooting in. There isn't any major risks associated with this specific location, as it is at my house. However, I have decided to still assess any minor/moderate risks that may occur during shooting as a precaution. The three main risks I assessed were inexperienced actors, confined spaces and trips and falls. I have assessed who will be affected by this and how it could be altered to make it more safe. By doing this we can inform ourselves about any difficulties that may occur before filming and essentially prevent these problems from occurring. This is extremely important as there is a lot of risks that can arise through filming and therefore carrying out a risk assessment has allowed us to protect our crew and cast.
